Submission to Festival Z is open to middle and high school students living in Jefferson County in Louisville, KY. Participants in the project (actors, interviewees, producers, etc.) do not have to live in Jefferson County as long as the submitter lives within the bounds of the county and has contributed to the piece.
Each submitter is invited to the May festival hosted at the Speed Art Museum. In addition to a showing of each submission, first through third place winners in each category will receive a price (to be later announced). All submissions should be shared with zmedia@manualjc.com on Google Drive in addition to completing a submission form.
DEADLINE: Monday, April 10 at 11:59 p.m.
CATEGORY PROMPTS:
1 – Short Film
Time limit: 15 minutes or less
Define community through a specific idea. Include three Louisville landmarks.
Examples of defining community include (but are not limited to) exploring the communities formed by neighborhoods, race, class, language, schools, etcetera.
3 – Extended Film
Time limit: 20 to 45 minutes
Research a historical event or figure of Kentucky and use your research as inspiration for your film.
Below is included a list of resources that may prove helpful when researching Kentucky history. Those completing the extended film prompt are NOT limited to the following resources:
- Kentucky History Timeline
- Famous Kentuckians, or Famous People Born in Kentucky
- A New History of Kentucky by Lowell H. Harrison and James C. Klotter
- The Kentucky Encyclopedia edited by John E. Kleber
Submissions will be judged using the following criteria:
- Artistic Merit: script (all elements of the story), style, and creativity
- Technical Merit: acting ability, editing, audio and video quality
- Adherence to Assignment
